Who We Are

We believe everyone deserves the chance to read well, speak well and live well. If every man, woman and child could read, write, and comprehend, our nation would be much closer to solving many of the social problems that face us. The Literacy Project of Eagle County is a non-profit 501c3 organization that provides all levels of English language tutoring to adults and children through volunteerism and financial support. Adult, Middle School, and Family & Children programs are available FREE.

Our programs are based on the whole language philosophy of teaching, which emphasizes individualized lesson plans based on social needs and using real life materials such as newspapers and job applications. Students set their own education and life goals, which may include securing a job, getting a driver’s license, and reading to their children.

Instruction is practical, relevant to each student’s life and capitalizes on life experiences and knowledge.

Our Vision

By promoting a literacy rich environment that reaches a diverse community of all ages and backgrounds, we strive to be the leader in literacy education in Eagle County. Through adaptable programs and collaboration with schools, businesses, partners, volunteers and donors we commit to serving everyone in our community that wants or needs help acquiring literacy skills. We seek to improve graduation rates, increase test scores, decrease poverty and ensure that there are books in the hands of every child in our county. 

We strive to foster a life-long love of reading, for it is the gateway to learning and achieving the hope for a brighter future. We provide safe, welcoming environments that equip learners to dream, believe and soar so that they have endless opportunity to live fuller, more enriched lives.
